PRP for Aesthetics
What is PRP and how is it used for facial rejuvenation?
Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a draw of your own blood that, after spinning in a centrifuge, separates the blood from its platelets, growth factors, and active proteins, creating a solution that results in 3 to 5 times the concentration of the original sample. This healing combination is immediately infused into the skin by injection or micro-needling, therefore initiating a localized stem cell response. Over the following weeks and months after treatment, this stem cell response solicits collagen-producing cells called fibroblasts. The fibroblasts help repair tissue that has been damaged through the aging process, resulting in healthy, rejuvenated-looking skin.
What are the benefits?
The potential benefits of PRP have led to a recent widespread interest in its use for anti-aging and regenerative purposes. The healing properties of the blood components in PRP can be used as an aesthetic treatment for:
Dark under eye circles
Mild collagen and volume loss
Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
Tightening and toning skin
A few weeks after treatment, you should notice an overall improvement in hydration, tone and texture of your skin. New collagen and blood vessels begin to generate after three to six weeks and you should see a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles over the next three to six months. Depending on the individual, the effects of PRP can last 12 months to two years. Although PRP creates a long term effect in the skin, it does take some patience to see the results. If you are looking for an immediate outcome, PRP can be combined with our hyaluronic acid fillers for immediate volume correction. Fillers do provide a medium for building new collagen and can be utilized to maximize and maintain the benefits of PRP.
How is PRP done?
At your consultation, the doctor will assess your needs and determine the best combination of treatments to achieve the result you are looking for. A simple blood draw from your arm is done and processed immediately in a special centrifuge. The spinning action separates and concentrates the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. After numbing the area of treatment, the PRP is injected and reapplied to the skin using a micro-needling device. After care instructions and follow-up is provided.
Is it safe?
Because PRP is extracted from your own blood, it is natural, safe and effective; therefore eliminating the risk of allergic reaction, disease transmission, or a negative immune response. You may experience mild swelling and bruising that could last three to seven days.
