What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 analog. It works by increasing insulin production and lowering glucagon secretion, as well as targets areas in the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. Semaglutide is just a slightly modified version of GLP-1.  This modified version allows Semaglutide to last weeks in our bodies, rather than GLP-1, which only lasts minutes. Semaglutide is sold under the name brands Ozempic® and Wegovy®

How Does Semaglutide Work?

Semaglutide acts in the following ways:

  • Semaglutide delays how quickly our stomachs digest food. This leads to a feeling of fullness and satisfaction with smaller meals.
  • Semaglutide slows intestinal motility, so you will feel fuller longer after meals.
  • Semaglutide lowers blood sugar, in part by increasing the production of insulin in the pancreas, thereby preventing irregular blood glucose, and thus curbing sugar and carbohydrate cravings.
  • Semaglutide lowers the production of glucagon in the liver.

Z Med Clinic’s In-House Injections of Semaglutide Versus At Home Self-Administration
At Z Med Clinics and Med Spas we offer “in-house” injections of compounded Semaglutide– mixed with B vitamins (to combat nausea). These are weekly injections given subcutaneously.
Alternatively, the medication can be shipped to the patients’ homes by a local pharmacy for self-admission. We prefer the patient to self-administer the medication at home.

Semaglutide injections are initially given in small doses. Then the dose is increased slowly to avoid any nausea that the patient may experience. The medication must be refrigerated if the patient choses to perform at home, self-administration.

Z MED Clinic Cost

The medical consultation and blood work is $210
